Broken Freezer door

Whilst away in Spain we managed to break our freezer door latch, basically some water got into the mechanism (condensation) and pressing the door button caused the latch arm to stress and snap.

It took a bit of jiggling by both of us and eventually the door opened, we were able to remove the latch fitting and the door closed and seal using the magnetic strip alone. We didn’t have alot in the fridge just ice really so it never burst open whilst driving.

When we got home set about trying to find a replacement, Dometic make alot of different models and each model it seems has different parts so the model number is really irrelevant it is the product code that matters.

Eventually after going round the houses came across a company Leisure Spares (https://www.leisurespares.co.uk/) who you have to call as the product number is not listed but they were very helpful and identified the part and ordered it there and then, 39.99 inc var and delivery!

Arrived today and fitted in about 5 minutes.

Decided to take the old one apart to see whats what, turns out not complicated so will keep the bit as you never know and it maybe possible to fashion a new bit one day and 3d printer maybe??

Met up with David, Bev, Dave, Lorraine,Liz and Robert. Nick was also parked up nearby.

Chris and Dawn Vickers from Frankia group also there with grand kids and friends.

Cycled round the lake missing out Hambleton again. Too wrong turn at Egleton.

Fridge fans

Worked through a variety of ways to incorporate fans into the fridge vents to exhaust the hot air for when very hot outside or vents are in the direct sunlight.

Had already bought a controller, 2 fans, fuse and wire so had all the bits.

Initially, built a detachable shade that fixed to the upper vent with in built solar panel generating enough to drive the 2 fans. Though I would fix the fans to the shade and then attach when required. But fixing fans to effectively exhaust hit air was very tricky.

Then decided fans have to fit inside vent and solar feed from the attched shade need to go through vent and be detachable. This prove possible but also could see the vent becoming damaged over time.

The tricky bit for me with fitting the fans etc was where to put the controller with damaging the van and fixing the fans. The connection to the vans 12v was the easy bit as was routing most of the wiring.

Drilled a hole through to the cupboard above he fridge fed the wire though and connected up the controller to the fans, the thermostat and power.

May keep a detachable shade for the upper vent as it does seem effective, when in direct sunlight and will give us a bit more flexibility on parking as we tend to try to park the vent with a bit of shade if possible.

Not sure of the best controller settings yet but upper 36 seems good start. Think it is turned off by default.
