Frank goes to Newark, 2nd Snag list

Took a trip to SMC Newark with the latest and hopefully last snag list, it is :

  1. Alde Overheat Red Fail, this looks to be the Flow Assembly Return valve, replacementwas sent by Alde to SMC
  2. Passenger Bed Motor failure
  3. Connect USB extension lead
  4. Check SatNav Traffic
  5. Battery Amperage
  6. Control Panel AH setup

Good journey up arrived just after 9am, handed keys over and checked the list of what they had to do, met Howard and explained some of the points in detail. PLanned to do some work had the Mifi with EE ready but they had a very good wifi connection so managed to connect to VPN and get some work done.

  1. Basically the Alde part was replaced the non return valve fell out of the old flow assembly when it was taken out, a bit of a mess left oin the locker as they did not drain the system down rather capped it off I think. Anyway it all appears to be working, we shall see over the coming weeks, but one major improvment is that the Radiator Panel by the Driver no longer gets boiling hot and I think the it all work even the heat exchanger!! They overfilled the Alde reservoir but at least it was topped up this time.
  2. They replaced noth bed motors this time, again all seems to work fine, no problems so far.
  3. They connected the USB extension lead p[ut it into the passenger glovebox (unexpeceted but no an issue).
  4. Apparently according to SMC, traffc reports (TMC) does not work in the UK, also the Blaupunkt TMC receiver is not fitted by SMC as it causes and issue with the Media Unit. This was discussed at great length and I pointed out that TMC does work check the Adria out we PX’d. Anyway after a loing debate and nobody being able to explain what the issue was with the TMC receiver I requested that they fit it and I will test it.
  5. Battery Amp, guy who could help was on holiday

Whilst doing the work on the media unit they manager to scratch the surround the air vent and the media unit screen, pointed this out and they replace the vent, the surround and got rid of the scratch, so mainly happy.

Not expecting a call regards the battery or the control panel but we shall see. Agaion as long as you get to speak to the right person things do get done, but you have to check everything as generally they do not know how things work.

Blaupunkt New York 835 Trucker Media unit

On the journey back no traffic reports were picked up, check the settings and the TMC section was enabled and now it was scanning but not receieving reports. When I got back also discovered a TMC receiver in the Blaupunkt box (so I now have a spare). After some research I emailed Blaupunkt support asking about TMC support and any Issues with the receiver. They responded the next morning explaining that UK TMC requires a software module from Naviextras (29GBP) and that there should be no issues they are aware of but use a seperate FM aerials for TMC and Radio if that it is the case.

Bought module installed it and all works, Traffic Events are received and reported Nationwide (excellent), did send an email to SMC to let them know that TMC can and does work and that so far no reception issues.
