3.6.16 Home to Folkestone to Calais to Le Treport.

Left home about 9:30am, tunnel booked for 11:50 (no chance), decided to refuel
once we were within 10 miles of the tunnel, looking on maps there were petrol
stations at most junctions. Picked 10 as a possible and if all else failed then
would use Tescos at J12. Pulled off at 10 to find the Shell station closed and
people queuing to get in, so carried onto to J12 almost empty and at 109.9
almost 10p cheaper.

Parked the van at the terminal to get a coffee and just check again the
procedure of travelling in a Van with a dog. One thing the ternminal does have
is a terrific Dog walk area well lite clean, safe and secure, absolutely first
class. Apparently, this is new though as another couple commented on how the last
time they used it it was very grubby and muddy.

The expeirence of travelling in a mortorhome with a dog and a car is very
similar, we did get pulled over for soem chap to check our lpg was switched off,
but nobody cared about the dog at all. The woman said they check you on the way
back in France but no checks here.

Our only plan was to get across the channel and then decide if fuel seemed easy
if it was then head down the west coast to Bordeaux/Biarritz. If fuel an issue
then my fallback had been Belguim, Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland and finally
Italy, but the weather and rain had put that to bed. Regardless after exiting
the tunnel (again no different to taking a car over just drove off!!) every
station we passed local and on the main roads had fuel and no limitatios that we
could see.

So we turned right and headed toward Le Treport, we wanted to visit this town
after watching the detective series The Witnesses (Les Tremoins), sadly the
weather in the series (grey and misty) appeared to be hwere in real life. We
also decide to avoid the Toll Road, this meant a lengthy trip I am nit sure how
long but long and every roundabout seemed to have a turb=ning towards the A16
Peage that offered quick travel. Still we perserved and arrived late on, parked
on the top of the cliffs but only after taking a detour through the town and
round the other sites. Pitched up easily plenty of space (Our first Aire),
after a mild panic as the mower at home seemed to have gone walkabout, but was
later confirmed to be stuck, weheaded out to the Funiculaire this ia a near
vertical train that cuts through the cliff face and join the top of the cliff
urbanisation with the commercial bits at the bottom. Have to say it is
excellent and FREE it just could not happen in the UK maybe Scotland or Wales
but not a hope in England.

So after scaring the dog on the train (he was very good but petrified), we
headed back to the van and some dinner, would have had something to eat in Le
Trport but the train service stops at 20:45 Monday to Friday, Weekends it is
Midnight. We then started discussing our plans for the next day, Hypermarket,
Fuel then Rouen or just past it we have 5 days to get to the Dunes of Pilat this
seemed liike a good plan. Jacqui then made a very good point, she decided she
liked Aires not because they are cheap but because we can leave them when we
want, unlike campsites which must be vacated by 11, 12 or maybe 13. Sure this
si not true of all Aires but the 24 hr concept is great we have paid 6.10 euro
for a 24hrs ticket arrived at 18:30 therefore wse have to ledave before 18:30
the next day plenty of time to browse Le Treport again and ride the Train for
FREE!!!
